Frequently Asked Questions

Octopush (also known as Underwater Hockey) is an intense 6v6 game played on the bottom of the pool. Players take a deep breath, dive down and push a weighted puck with small 30cm sticks into the opponents goal.

We play twice a week every week, including through the holidays. Every Friday at Archbishop Holgate School Swimming Pool 8-9pm and every Saturday at Yearsley Swimming Pool between 3-4pm.

On the rare occasion the session is cancelled, you’ll hear about it through our emails & on social media.

For beginners to the sport, the first month is free and £8 per session after. You can pay by card after each session, sorry we don't accept cash.

If you attend regularly, we also offer a monthly membership which works out cheaper.

One session per week - £30 per month

Two sessions per week - £50 per month

If you want to set up monthly payments, please speak to us at a session or send an email for more information.

After you start playing, you will also need to purchase a British Octopush Association membership which covers your insurance. https://www.gbuwh.co.uk/page/membership

We currently have players with ages ranging between 12 and 70ish playing in our club.

Children are very welcome to join us, provided they are confident swimmers and feel comfortable playing alongside adults. For children under 12, we ask that a parent or guardian also joins them in the water while they are learning.

We also play in a Yorkshire league with clubs in Leeds, Halifax and Skipton.

No! Of course, it helps, but most players only stay under for a few seconds at a time before you come up for air. Being in the right place at the right time is more important than holding your breath, you don't need to stay down for ages to have a big impact on the game.

Absolutely! Visiting players are always welcome, just turn up and join in, we're happy to have you.
